Untapped Alberta

Hip-hop crew Politic Live and soul-pop vocalist Krystle Dos Santos are two of the headliners of a new concert series sponsored by Canada’s hippest bank, ATB Financial, Big Rock and Alberta Music.

The local artists will perform as part of the Untapped Alberta Music Series on Friday, Oct. 23 at the Arts Barns. The show is one of five in cities and towns across the province. The series kicks off next Friday in Calgary with The Wet Secrets and Chad VanGaalen. Quick tangent: Fans can download a free EP of B-sides from VanGaalen’s Polaris Music Prize-nominated album, Soft Airplane, from this site. The Polaris will be awarded on Monday, Sept. 21 in Toronto. Watch it on MuchMusic's website.

As for Untapped Alberta, the series includes stops in Medicine Hat, Red Deer and the secret rock ‘n’ roll capital of Alberta — Beaverlodge. (I feel like using all-caps: BEAVERLODGE!) Tickets are $10 at any ATB branch. Proceeds from the Edmonton show, which also features singer-songwriter Carrie Hyrniw, will be donated to the Youth Emergency Shelter Society.
